Hearing some of my favorite influences here; uzeda, sick lipstick, heliogabale, flying luttenbachers, erase errata, yowie, scissor girls. Incredibly well crafted and blended together. Thank you chaser for keeping the quirky/sassy dissonance flame going!
Favorite track: Sparrow.
Chaser have long been one of my favorite bands in NYC, making always creative and exciting music that pulls influence from no wave, brutal prog, and art rock. So it's extremely exciting that this all-star band decided to release this album with Decoherence. Featuring a member of Child Abuse and an ex-member of Cellular Chaos, you know this band has the chops to lay down some heavy outside-the-box rock. But now, let me turn this over to an expert on such musical styles, Weasel Walter, who had this to say about "Planned Obsolescence":
"Chaser’s second full-length release, 'Planned Obsolescence,' slashes and burns with futuristic precision. The New York City-based quartet has come through with a concise, hard-edged album of brisk, modernistic cyborg-rock, teeming with oblique lyrical cruelty and angular, fastidious musicianship. There isn’t a wasted moment on 'Planned Obsolescence.' It is a cold, hard, discordant 25-minute long metallic fist ramming righteously through the turgid musical landscape of now. The band does not conform to previous conventions of 'noise rock,' 'no wave,' 'math rock,' 'post-punk' and all that sort of stuff, but they do creep stealthily around all of them in a refreshingly singular fashion. The Chaser design pivots around Oran Canfield’s punchy, determinately non-clichéd drum patterns, Shayna Dulberger’s bruising bass guitar foundation, and Chris Welcome’s surgically invasive laser-pointer guitar dissonance. Dominika Michalowska is a vocalist of sinister intrigue, deliberate and understated. Her impressionistic narratives are delivered with a measured intensity and set morbid scenes with enough holes in them that we are left to fill in the blanks. In Chaser’s music, every element interlocks with economy and warped logic. The eight songs here cascade forward with high-pressure momentum and leave behind scorched earth. Chaser creates a seething atmosphere of urban anxiety, discipline, and catharsis. 'Planned Obsolescence' reflects 21st Century unrest being confronted and conquered by agents of shadowy intelligence."

A raucous adventure through noise, no wave, off-kilter DIY prog, and the absurdist side of post-punk from Pagan Athletes. Bandcamp New & Notable Jun 13, 2023
You’d expect an album titled “Velociraptor” to be heavy and this doesn’t disappoint, as it’s jam-packed with serrated noise & feedback. Bandcamp New & Notable Apr 22, 2023
